The 3 Little Pigs and Their Faith

Hey everybody!

So we all know the classic story of The Three Little Pigs…I mean how could you not. This is a story that was told for the majority of my daycare and elementary school years and I always just took the story for what it was until last week. In my quiet time with God, this came to my head and I was like “God are you foreal?” But clearly He was so serious, because the way He broke this story down to me was like wow, so profound. (To me anyway, I pray it helps you as well!)

So what if God was showing us different levels of faith and trust in Him through this old story? Do y’all remember how the story went? Well if not let me jog your memory real quick. So an old mother pig had three little pigs who were getting to old to stay with her, so she said “Hey, y’all got to get up, go find a job, and take care of yourselves” So the pigs were like “Dang mama, it’s like that?”, but they got up and tried to make a living for themselves. Now one of the pigs built a house of straw, one built a house of sticks, and the other one built and house out of bricks. So everything was going great, and all the pigs were making it for themselves. Now here comes a nasty ole wolf, just prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for a pig to devour. He comes to the first pigs house and says “Little pig, Little pig, let me in!” Then the pig says “oh no sir! Not by the hair of my chinny chin chin.” But the poor little pig was delusional. Did he not realize that he made his house out of straw? So the wolf blew the poor little house down and the pig escaped…y’all he ESCAPED to his brother’s house that was made of sticks. Now the same things happened to the next pig and they escaped again and made it to the house of bricks! Praise God for that! lol Do y’all know the wolf couldn’t blow that house down? He got tired of huffing and puffing! He even tried to come through the chimney, but the pigs had a boiling pot of water waiting on him, and they ate the wolf for supper! My God! lol

So…now the question remains, which pig are you? Which pig am I? How is our faith and trust in God? How is our relationship with Him? Is it built from straw? Sticks? Bricks? Be honest with yourself, only your eyes can see this. But it’s so important to evaluate ourselves and where we are in Christ, because not to scare you, but the enemy is on the prowl, just like that wolf was in the story. The bible even warns us in 1 Peter 5:8 “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” So what will you do?

Now the beauty in this story is, the pigs escaped the wolf, not once but twice! God always gives second chances and He is giving us time to get it together! We still have time to escape our faith houses made of straw and sticks and run into his arms, which by the way, is stronger than a brick house! Yeah it’s easier and more comfortable to build houses made of straw and sticks, it takes no time at all. But when the wind comes, will in stand? Take the time now to labor and work at building your faith and building your relationship with Christ so that when trouble comes your way, you can be steady like a tree with deep roots. The bible says, in Jeremiah 17 “But blessed are those who trust in the LORD and have made the LORD their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.”

Then the cherry on top…the wolf lost! We have to know through Jesus Christ the devil is powerless against us! That’s why the wolf had to do all that huffing and puffing, he has no real power! But will we accept our power, or will we continue to be comfortable in a straw house? This is our time to escape, and run to house made of bricks!! I’m already running that way, will you join me?
