Let Fear Push You Forward
Try the uncomfortable…this was the statement ringing in my head, pushing me to write this blog. Try the uncomfortable. According to Google, the word uncomfortable means “causing or feeling unease or awkwardness.” Why would we want to try anything that causes us to feel uneasy or awkward. Those two words individually make me antsy, so why would I ever what to combine the two?
Currently, I work at a grocery store where I am a cashier. However, recently I received a promotion of sorts that really stretched my comfortability even more than I had originally intended. My promotion came with a lot more responsibilities than my previous position as a cashier had alone. As opposed to interacting with customers, providing great customer service, and ringing up and bagging groceries, I now have to answer phones, contact other departments for customer needs, take orders, solve customer problems, complete returns, and exchanges, and organize and delegate myself and other cashiers for different task and breaks. This change of pace honestly lead me to my bible, because before even starting my first day in my new position I began to feel very uncomfortable. What if I mess up? What if my co-workers don’t like me anymore? What if I don’t know what to do? I firmly believe that a promotion in the natural is directly parallel to a promotion spiritually, and even now I’m still learing what that all emcompasses.
To be quite honest with you, I am a very laid back person and I prefer to take a back seat and be backstage rather than center stage. I take great comfort in not saying much, and observing. I like to be in the background. I can’t explain it. It’s much more comfortable for me. This is why taking on more leadership responsibilities had me shaking in my boots. I read devotionals on leadership and humility because I wanted to see how Jesus handled his responsibilities. I wanted to study how he handles conflict, and envy. I wanted a pure example of how to deal with people in a loving way, without compromising who I was as a child of God. I know some of y’all are thinking…girl you taking a little grocery store duties way to seriously, but the bible says in Matthew 25:23, if we be faithful over a few things, God will make us ruler of many thing. He can’t grow us in any capacity, whether it be relationships, or business if we can’t function properly where we are now. Take advantage of where you are now and bloom where you are planted and God will take you places. I’ve learned to stop despising humble beginnings, the word says God delights in seeing the work being! Begin, and begin on the good foot!
Now all of that wasn’t my intention for this post. I came to encourage you to push past the uncomfortable stage and learn all you can! Feel all the emotions and changes that come with taking a good risk and watch God develop you! It actually remind me of the story of Abraham. God told Abraham in Genesis 12:1-3, “The LORD had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you. I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.” That’s why God gave us his word, to find ourselves, and our situations in the bible and allow him to provide us with solutions! You can’t tell me Abraham wasn’t uncomfortable or nervous to uproot himself and all he knew to go to an unknown place. But if he hadn’t, we wouldn’t have received all the promises promised to Abraham for him, and all his descendants! ( see Genesis 22:18)
Yes the thought of taking a leap of faith is uncomfortable but it’s worth it! It helps us grow not only to bless ourselves, but to be a blessing to others. So I encourage all of us with a quote by Susan Jeffers, psychologist and author, “Feel the fear and do it anyway”. God will be with you every step of the way, but let’s not limit what he wants to do through us because we are paralyzed by a single emotion. Don’t let fear or being uncomfortable be an excuse, allow it to propel you into your destiny. God has so much in store for us, trust him to undergird you. People are waiting on you, including your future self!
A prayer for today
Lord God we thank you so much for being amazing to us. We thank you for yet another day to learn another lesson growing us closer to you. God we ask a simple request today, and that is help us. Help us to not be afraid of who you are calling each of us to be. Help to take the steps we need to fulfill our purpose in life. Help us to appreciate humble beginning, because we know that preparation time is not lost time. Every second is preparing us, if we choose to believe so. Help us today. We need you. In Jesus’ name we pray and believe. Amen!
