It’s so easy in this day and time to be swayed into thinking that money and popularity are the keys to happiness. It’s so easy to be discouraged as we scroll through people’s seemingly perfect lives that leaves us questioning ourselves, our work ethic, and God’s plan for us. It puts us in the space of thinking that instant fame or money will save us when really all we need is Jesus, who will provide all of our needs and even our wants.
I came across a verse in 1 Timothy that is a great illustration of this. I want to share it with you via the amplified version of the bible because I believe it paints the perfect picture. It says in verse 17: “As for the rich in this present world, instruct them not to be conceited and arrogant, nor to set their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly and ceaselessly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.” The bible is very clear. There is nothing wrong with having riches, in fact he wants us to enjoy them. However, riches ALONE are uncertain and quickly fleeting. The beauty is that we have all we need in God. If we put our hope in him we will have everything we need ceaselessly! Their is NO LACK in Jesus Christ.
I know you might be saying “Annette that’s all good, but I’m struggling.” I totally get that. But I’m also convinced that God makes no mistakes. He never withholds any good thing from His children. So maybe we just aren’t ready for that level of success yet. Or maybe we haven’t even truly asked him!
I’ll end with this. The bible also says in 1 Timothy 6: 18-19: “Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous, willing to share [with others]. In this way storing up for themselves the enduring riches of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.” This is the secret to living a rich life in ALL areas. Not just monetarily. 1. Trust God to provide all of your needs. 2. Be generous and share with others. Be of service. 3. Watch it richly enhance your life. Don’t be lead to believe that it’s all about you. True wealth comes from blessing others. And as we do, God will never forget us! Amen!
A prayer for today!
Jesus we thank you so much for all you do for us. We thank you God that things may not be exactly how we want them to be but that they are as well as they are God. We know that things could be way worse. Help us to have joy no matter the circumstance because we know in you Lord there is no lack. Help us to live our lives with generous hearts so that we can feel the true essence of your love and kindness. Help us not to be discouraged by the riches of this world but to trust in you who richly provides. We love you and we thank you in advance for all the blessings to come. Change our perspective today. In Jesus’ name we pray and believe. Amen!
